There is nothing wrong in eating Basmati rice daily! Basmati rice, in my experience, is lighter on the stomach.

Hello Ramdasji,
I bag to differ about Basmati Rice being lighter on stomach.
Basmati rice has been found to produce a lot of Gas by many many friends.
Aroma of Basmati does not go well with sambar and Rasams.

Hemantji,
Forgive me for my ignorance. May be my experience is so because by nature, if it is Basmati, I eat it in lesser quantities then if it is Ponni or SoNa masuri! May be I eat less of it because it does not go well with sambaar and rasam. But there is nothing to beat Basmati for Biriyaani. Still may be I eat lesser quantity of Biriyaani rice because of the vegetables and other masalas added to it.!! Thanks for correcting me.

Is it true that Basmathi rice is rich in FAT?

Hello AJ,
There is no fat in starch of any kind.
But it is converted to sugar and ultimately it increases the bulk of the body.
Hello Ramdasji,
I agree. No Basmati, no Biriyani.

Dear Hemantji,
I have enjoyed reading your responses to other's queries. I would appreciate your help to mine.
I did not realize basmati could create gas problems. We have been eating basmati for the past 17 - 18 years and our food is vegetarian ( mostly South Indian, no spice) and freshly cooked. However, my husband has been having digestive problems for the past four years.
My question is if I were to switch to another type of rice, what would be a good choice?
Thank you in advance,
asha

Hello Asha,
If you switchover to Ponni or Sona Masuri from Soth India or any Andhra rice, I promise you that your husband would not have any stomach problems.
Please tell me where in this small world you are ??

Hello Hemantji,
Thank you for the info. I have tried both Ponni and Sona Masuri (Indian grocery stores have recently started carrying both varieties) and I like them with rasam and sambhar. I will make the switch and hope for the best.
We live in Virginia, US.

Interesting responses. I've been eating the long grained basmati rice every single day for the past 25 years, sometimes twice a day for lunch and dinner. I simply can't stomach any other rice when traveling. I've a very delicate stomach and am now wondering whether the rice is the cause for the gas, as mentioned by Mr. Hemanth.

Hello Viv!
Mr.Hemant's suggestion is correct. I have also consumed Basmati rice for the past 27 years. But after crossing 40 years, I have also experienced gastic and digestive problems. This is because our stomach's resisting power ls loosening. Here, in Gulf, so many people are experiencing these problems like me. Ponni Boiled rice is the best alternative.

Apart from rice, there are a lot of other foodstuff that cause gas problem.
Eating Kadalai/kadalai maavu dishes/onion based food and fermenting food /cause gas problems.
Avoid softdrinks .
Try is you can eat the following.
Dry ginger powder+Mintpaste+Honey . Make a paste like lehyam.Have one spoonful twice per day.
Use Dill seeds as mouth freshner after food. You can also take a little Thymol/Ajawain/omam with rock salt.
Gas will not stay in stomach.
