Thks gaya..it is especially frm coimbatore and erode..they call this as pottukadalai sambar(for idli n dosai)They add coconut for this sambar..i don't know how they call this sambar in other parts of tamilnadu..thks for ur response..i'll be happy if u give me the receipe...Kavi.

hi kavi,
after a long search........i got this recipe from malliga badrinath's book..........
pottu kadalai sambar
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ingredients:
~~~~~~~~~
small onions----1/2 cup
tomato ----3(medium)
turmeric powder----1/2 t.s.
salt----for taste
sugar or jaggery.( if desired)
fry and grind:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
coriander seeds---1 t.s.
dry chillies--4-8
to be powdered:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
channa dhalia---pothu kadalai
11/2 table spoon.
procedure:
~~~~~~~~
first finely chop the onions and tomato.
then, heat oil in a pan, add mustard, fry the onions to little brown , then add tomato.when it is fried well, add turmeric, salt, add jaggery (if desired) and some water to get boiled.now add the grinded paste of dry chillies and thania and boil them for some more time.then, in the final stage, add the kadalai podi and garnish with coriander and curry leaves.

Sorry for my delayed reply...i am not doing well..i tried the sambar the other day..it was sooo good. It is different taste compared to the one i told(sambar back at home).
When i browse the prev. threads..i came to know that no indians at ur place won't speak..exactly i feel the same..americans atleast smile..right?

thats o.k., kavi, ..........and i m so much pampered by my family members.....got married immediatedly after the graduation.....so, new to this kitchen.....so, i will make simple dishes which i can for deepawali.....like rawa kesari, rava laddu....and mettha...thats it.....

hai sashi,
making eggless cake is quite easy.
beat 1 tin milkmaid and add 120gms butter. beat again till smooth. add 1 1/2 tspn vanilla essence.
and mix.
seive 2 cups maida and 2 tspns baking powder together.
add this flour and 200ml milk alternatively to the mixture and beat.
chop nuts,cherries, tutty fruity and add to it.pour in a greeced bowl and decorate it wiyh nuts and cherries.
bake at 180 degrees for 40 mins.
