Please help. I wanted to know the recipe how to make green plantain (athekai) dish. This dish could be eaten on its own with onion green chili chutney. It had onions, chili and was really yummy to eat. could you please tell me how to make this dish and also the chutney. The chuntey is not a paste but has pieces of green chili and onion in it. Thanks in advance.

are u sure it was etheka?? or kappa (tapioca??) any way, if it is kappa or athekka, just peel the out layer tholi, put in big bowl with enough water and salt and haldi, and touch and see it is soft cooked - that is all - now clear out the water and ready to eat - very good for children if it is atheka.
now the chutney part of it, it is called Chamanti, take green chillies take salt, take little puli tamarind, two to three curry leave, put in either in small mixe and just crush it together, for a while to make a coarse paste, like a chadakkal done in ammikkallu. Then add, coconut oil - it has be cococnut oil, the main taste is from that only and ready to serve - very yummy yummy thing.

Hi Shanti. Thanks a bunch. Kappa is one of my favorite dishes too. The green kerala plaintain(not the fruit yellow plantain) is what i liked too. I do not know how the exact procedure to make it nor do I know its name but the green plaintain was cooked with some red chillies, coconut, onion and green chillies.I really want to make this dish. Do you know this dish. Thank You.
