I was wondering what people's reactions were to these articles about conversion of low caste hinuds in India. There is growing controversy over the issue and Tamil Nadu and Gujurat have passed laws making it difficult for religions, whether they be buddhism, islam or christianity to convert people.

Everyone is free to convert to any religion of their choice. If you impose any restriction on that, it only will prove that your religion that you are trying to protect is not valid anymore in the present situation. High time some of our Indians improve in their approach to relligious tollerence.

Why do Christians, most of them get funds from WHITES, try only HINDUS to covert?
Are these people try to convert any Muslims or Sikhs or Jains to Christianity in India?
Why do they try HINDUS only?
I think those people want to destroy Indian culture fabric and try to introduce Western values in order to exploit Indian resources without any opposition like Philipines or any other African countries who became Christian countries long ago.
Their aim is NOT equality or Human Rights.

karthi,
we had a detailed discussion on this sometime back. The law passed by Tamilnadu and
Gujarat (had they passed?) only prevents conversions by fraud, force or allurement.
Already such a law exists in Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and Arunachal Pradesh. In Madhya Pradesh, a missionary(stanislaus) went to court and finally supreme court ruled that the Madhya pradesh government was right in enacting such a legislation.
In those states nothing much has changed, Infact in Arunachal pradesh, there is total ban on conversions. The church protested and Indira Gandhi was forced by the christian churches to withdraw that legislation. Indira demolished around 700 churches and deported around 400 foreign missionaries who were doing this anti-India conversions in Arunachal pradesh .
Due to the tough measures, Arunachal pradesh couldnt be converted and when in other north eastern states (wherever they have converted) the terrorism flourishes(aided and abetted by the church), Arunachal is peaceful so far.
Ofcourse , there too now missionaries are working in other garbs and have brainwashed the educated lot to think that they are not Hindus.

It is interesting to note that there is a law preventing forced conversion, which will unfortunately question even legitimate and willing conversions; at the same time these lawmakers cannot protect an elderly lady mentioned in the first article from being beaten up by people (??!!) from her own faith.
If a man is not allowed basic dignity by people of his own religion, then his conversion is not the result of brainwashing or financial coercion.
But unfortunately this law will question this man's conversion (and will turn a blind eye on his being beaten up).
What about 're-conversion' for monetary purposes and privledges? Would that be considered 'forced' or 'coerced' or 'brainwashed'?
