Hi Everyone,

I'm a politics postgrad student in the UK, and i'm writing my dissertation on secularism and nationalism in India, especially Hindu Nationalism.
There is something that intrigues me, during the 1950's right after independence, the main secessionist threats did not come from kashmir, punjab or other parts of north eastern india but actually in the south with parties like the DMK and the telugu desam party. I was wondering why the secessionist attitudes within those movements have lessened, if not totally disappeared, secessionist movements have appeared in the north.
Is it because in the south, these parties, whatever being said, shared the majority religion generally while such movements in the north are mainly non-hindu movements?
