Who was the Bharat after whom our country is known by his name? Was he brother of Ram or son of Dushyant? Or none of both? Please tell me.

Mythologically - Son of Dushyant & Sakuntala. Rama's brother was named after him.
Historically - Possibly, Bharata was named after the clan that won the battle of the 10 kings, led by Sudas & his preceptor Vashistha.

All Hundu Purans say that Bharat, the elder son of Rishabhdev the first Teerthankar of Jains was the person after whom this nation is known as Bharat. But today no one from Hindu community will admit this because they do not want to give any credit to Jains. Please read Bhagwat Puran where the story of Rishabh and Bharat is given in detail. Brother of Rama or son of Dushayanta was not so great that we know this nation by their name.

Homosapien Breeds of India original Classification .
The Government of India(GOI) classifies people by SC/ST and backward classes.
But how many of us know that we have the dark African Indians to the light
Skinned Aryans and the much neglected squinted Chinese and mongolian
and the other tribes of multiple cross breeds of Humans which the GOI does not
Classify .
I like to know if there is any book or source that classifies the race of the people
based on caste and class system of India .
The 3 main races of india are the original Dark africans who are now abundant
only in Tamilnadu and andhra. The chinese and aryo-africans and aryo-chinese
in bengal. Most brown skinned men are russo or aryo-africans ,over multiple
generation of breeding they Look as if they are a genuine race by themselves.
Most gujarathis are of Russo-african breed , now they live all over the world,
they look themselves with awe when they confront a 100% african man or a
Aryan man. Usually they go by the BandWagon of Indian Brand.
More over there are lot more originals tribes of india who have vanished
over aryan invasion and moghul period . Is there a place where i could find
a detailed classification of indian breed of men and women by their height
weight and region of origin!!!!!!
Please write me with your ideas at Giri-kalahari@hotmail.com

giri, don't tell these people about their africaness. they have enough color trouble as it is.
"Most brown skinned men are russo or aryo-africans ,over multiple generation of breeding they Look as if they are a genuine race by themselves." This is an excellent point.

I dont agree with Giri`s pre-notions before he reads what ever he wanted to read!!
Why at all some one should classify the people of the sub-continent to be composed of different races!!
Why dont one think the other way around..? why cant a Giri think that - a person living in Gujarat might have migrated to Russia - and became a light skinned Gujjo-russian!!!
or simillar things..!!
For me - i see the diffences - the apparent ones like that of the colour, hair thickness and height, weight and language as merely the differences by virtue of the land and regions of this massive sub-continent.. they are just the result of the distance that is seperating the people.
It is the way of living - the way of thinking and the way of responding to the actions of the other fellow beings - that classifies a race!!
and i see a great deal of simillarity of these parameters among the people of the sub-continent - no matter they look negroid, or a light skinned or that of a short eyed and short nosed Chinece!!
we all belong to the same race - the geographic conditions like the sun-factor or the montain heights or a delta - have changed the outer look to an extent .. which has got a significant outer change after decedence of several generations..!! But surely the race is the same.

ananda, What's are you missing? How can it be that all these people are the same race? Clearly, there at least 3 major races on the sub-cont which have mixed over the centuries to produce a spectrum of phenotypes. Perhaps you are confused because the spectrum is so geographically diverse.
PS the caste system must have come after a lot of mixing had already taken place; to a put a halt to it.

I disagree with you observer!
I see the picture in a different way!!
I say - the caste system provoked the migration.. and so the people of this subcontinent spread all over!!
I say infact the races in the baltics and those in russsia or those in the south-east asia do have their orgins from this very sub-continent!!
What makes u say there are 3 races? just the differences in the out look???

I think of the spread of Buddhism.. as an evidence to my above argument..
when u see.. its propogation.. it was spread all over the subcontinent at one point of time.. (even there are some aramas in AP and far south too!!) but it lost its credibilites.. to the root i.e, the santhana dharma!!
So.. it went to the lands where it can dominate.. simply because.. there was no other pre-existing competitor!!
the 'santhana-dharma' is changing its look over the time.. but is never replaced by any other way of life..
Even the religions like Islam and Christanity have only an apparent affect on this sub-continent.. They might have changed the belifes of people to some extent but.. they could not really change the way of life..
a christian from TN or Kerla has got similar charecters to that of the other of sub-continet (remind u that i am not talking about the religional belifes.. they are queit apparent!!)
so is a musalman from a bengal!!
They are very much people of this sub-continent.. with simillar charecteristics..

Bharat was the son of king Dushyanta and shakuntala.(of the Shakuntalam of kalidasa kavi)
There is an alternative version about the king Bharat the brother of saint Bahubali of Jainism.

Of course there are many races in indian sub-continent. It is evident from color to features.
The people from north west can be distinguished easily. Same is true for east and south regions.

Bharat was the grandson of the great Sage vishwamitra, the sage had a daughter from a celestial nymph called rambha. The offspring was raised in a ashram of brahimns, she grew up and married a king of Adodya (dont mind the spelling), the king left berring the daughter of the sage a son (named bharat). The boy was very intelligent and brave since he lived iwth brahmins and had kshatriya bloodline. After his childhood, his parents were reunited and Bharat beacame the king. As king he created a great empire and it is by his name we call our nation (But i am a N.R.I.).
