If you are talking about the dance and music "Baratham" - it should be before Chilappathiharam - Devadasi's art forms - developed in a more organised way somewhere during Mugalayar's era - 400 years before. It remained as Devadasi's dance form till the beginning of this century. It gained its holiness from the fact that devadasis were performing this dance at all the religious functions in temples.
If you are talking about The epic Mahabaratham - it should be in existence from 7th Cenury A.D. It gained its present form during Mugalayar era - 400 years before incorporating lot of small local stories into it. The Baratham - the dance form of Devadasis were very helpful in bringing up this bigger volume of epic as they included and extracted various chapters of this epic for their dance performances.

Anu,
Mugalayar era = Mughal era, started with Ghazni's invasion I think around 1192 and ended with Bahadur Shah (1712 I think).

Considering the fact that even the meanest detractors of India place the Bhagavada Geeta at latest at 2nd century AD, based on the phonetic development of classical Sanskrit, it is interesting to note that some have the incredible brainlessness to claim that the Mahabharata, in which the Geeta appears, is as late as 7th century AD.
No. These are silly Pakistanis again. Lacking a cultural identity of their own, they are tryng to assail ancient India's. Without success.
Too much Mughalayar on the brain. Not good.
India is over 4,500 years old. Swastikas, Pashupati (Siva), Mother Goddess, Possible Soma presses have all been found in the Indus valley Civilisation. Which is Indian.
Pakistan is 50 years old. India is 4,500 years.
