MUMBAI DEC. 11. Jurist, statesman and former Ambassador to the U.S., Nani Ardeshir Palkhivala died here today at the Jaslok hospital following a protracted illness. He was 82.

A member on the Board of Directors of Press Trust of India since 1985, Palkhivala was also a director of Tata group of companies for a number of years. Palkhivala, a multi-faceted personality, was a lawyer par excellence, custodian of Indian Constitution, renowned public speaker and philanthropist and a distinguished ambassador. His career in public life spanned five decades.

One of India's great thinkers has left us.
His ' We The People' is a must read for all Indians. His post-budget speeches were legendary.
His ability to think above the narrow lines of caste and relegion was great.
