Dowry deaths?!!!

Why does dowry death continue to exist after it has been known for a long time that it just causes harm for people?

The question should be why do people still give/take dowries? That's the root of the problem.

i guess that dowry in itself is not bad at all...it has a pretty meaning to give away a lot of gifts, then at the end give the groom the vigine of the house...it should be basically to help the new spouses to start out there own life...so, the system in itself isn't bad at all...it's the ill usage of it that makes that bad...so, why do people insist to use the system in the wrong way?
