Some Reflections...

Hi Friends,

I posted a message some time back on a good book written on Indian past titled "Foundations of Indian Culture" by Aurobindo Ghosh. I was surprised by the replies, for they were all pointing only to the much disputed Dravidian and Aryan origins of our country. I wasn't surprised that no one knew about the book, but I was struck by the fact that whoever added to the thread were only shooting in the dark with their own pre-conceived views of our origins. One person even mis-quoted Aurobindo Ghosh with partial information (with some links) comparing the great writer to the "Hindutva" writers ! I have then had the time to go through many of the discussions and I could understand something, but sadly, which is alarming. I see a few good thinking minds. While it is nice to see a passionate discussion on our much disputed origins, I also find some traces of 'seperatism', which is very un-pleasant. I see a lot of set prejudice in spite of the ability to think.

What matters to me is the "spirit" that makes us "Indian". While our individuality is very essential to preserve the uniqueness of whatever we are, it is equally true that we have something wider where it has been assimilated or rather moulded it. It is this wider spirit that matters to us as a country with such a great multicultural past.

I just wanted to share some of my feelings, that's all...
