According to reports the hijackers of the Indian Airlines flight IC 814 demand the release of 35 more militants and 200 million US dollars in cash for setting free 155 people being held hostage by them. Should the government yield to their demands as the V. P. Singh government did when a cabinet minister's daughter was held hostage? If some VIP's were on that flight how would the government react? Is it wise to release these militants to save 150 people while much more than 150 innocent people are likely to be harmed by their terrorism in the future?

  150 lives are not something to gamble on...as to whether or not it's worth releasing them. You never know what will happen tomorrow. The present situation demands the release of these innocent people. To safeguard India's security the government may have to think and devise better plans. Who knows, one of these people could change the fate of India tomorrow!

  According to Rediff, a Government of India official indicated that "there is very little possibility" of either Maulana Masood Azhar or the other 35 terrorists being freed by the government because "such a course will endanger national security and embolden others that India is a soft target which could be played around with at will." He hinted that the political leadership would go to any extent, ''including an all out war with a hostile neighbouring country, if the situation demands," and added that "this was no idle boast.

  When I was looking the other way, you grabbed my chin and turned my face in the direction of this horrible dillemma. The "hostile" neighboring country was a political creation paid for with human coins. The price is still being paid.

  There were DEADLY inefficiencies on the part of Indian Airlines and the 'security' (if it exists) at Tribhuvan airport of Katmandu or some creeps were bribed handsomely to betray these innocent passengers.
  
  If, God forbid, India has to release even one of these ultras, it better be ready to stick it back to the militants ten times in the future. As a proud Indian, I wouldn't want to betray the sacrifices made by the thousands of my jawans in the Kargils, Ladakhs and Jammus just to be 'humanitarian'. On the other hand, I don't want to be a hypocrite sitting in my living room, preaching about the need for civilian sacrifices. So....my hope is for a happy, but proud ending to this saga.
