Title: Trace Routing

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: The project deals with accepting an ip address from the user along with its subnet address and providing a dynamic facility to ping to the machine. The routines for ping are developed to transmit and receive packets. The acknowledgements guarantee the presence of the machine. The number of Hops and the shortest route to the host is calculated. The shortest distance is thus displayed. The application can work on both INTRANET as well as the INTERNET. The application is to be developed in modules. The first module will check the presence of the machine and provide a means to ping to the remote machine. The second module will calculate the number of hops, which could be in the form of routers, gateways or bridges. The third module will analyze the shortest distance and will be responsible for monitoring the IP packets.
