Hi my name is Shreeya and I have been dating a wonderful tamil guy for the past 2 years we plan to get married. I've found that tamil women especially stereotype guyanese/trinidadian women who are of east indian descent to be "bad" (w/e that means) I just wanted to hear everyone's opinion on this subject since i am guyanese..Is anyone upset by the fact that many tamil men marry guyanese/trinidadian women?

  Why would anybody be upset about marrying a west indian? You people have Tamil descent, to me it is almost the same.
  Out of curiosity, is your Tamil boyfriend Indian Tamil or Lankan Tamil?
  Also, are you into Tamil culture? Do you watch Tamil movies, listen to Tamil music often?

  Also, I think maybe the Tamil women think that way because west Indian girls are raised in a more open western culture, rather than a traditional eastern culture.

  well my boyfriend is a lankan tamil and although i dont think i am of tamil descent..my last name is Mangroo(Munguru) my grandmothers maiden name is Natoo..I am always being mistaken for tamil..and of course..as i plan to spend my life with this man..i have taken the culture in..watching movies,listening to music..and i am even learning tamil..as for your point about being raised in a more open western culture this is true but we have still managed tohold on to
  some of our traditions..my boyfriends mother was surprised that i cud wrap my own saree.

  Munguru, Natoo, sounds Dravidian (southern Indian). You could be of Telugu origin, still pretty much the same as Tamil. Or Natoo, could have been originally "Naidoo", which Telugu and even Tamil.

  It is also WONDERFUL to know that you are involving yourself in Tamil culture, language, worship, etc. If you both happen to visit India, definitely head to Tamil Nadu, its another world compared to the rest of India, it is just simply awesome there.

  If people are confusing you with being Thamil, then obviously you have got some south Indian blood in you. I know many Guyanese and Trini people who claim "Madras" (Tamil) as their heritage.

  well..its funny..that you should mention naidoo..because...my full name..is Shreeya devi sarojini naidoo..(my parents went crazy i guess...=)..)the problem is the tamil women thinking that all women of west indian descent are "bad"..its very disheartening when u try so hard to adapt to someone elses culture and u still are not excepted..but thanks for your responses guyz..:D...

  Then your origins are definitely Andhra Pradesh, or maybe Thamil Naadu, but yours is most likely Andhra. The fact of the matter is, your origins are pretty much close to being Tamil, because South India is your origin (your name is complete proof).
  Don't worry about what the Tamil people think, because a lot of East Indians think that way about West Indians. At least you can get into touch with your roots, and it is very admirable for you getting involved in Tamil culture, because in my honest opinion, South Indian culture is the most vibrant, colorful, and beautiful culture in all of India, the landscape is green, the people are happy, everything. Don't worry, the Tamil people will accept you. In my eyes, West Indians aren't any different.
