I think many of us lesser mortals, i.e. non-Chennaiites would have been struck by their attitudes... I mean their sophistication... they're always one step ahead of the rest of Tamil Nadu... They're more refined in their manners, they stick to English as much as possible, even when they speak Tamil, it is with an English accent... they listen to English music, even Hindi music, but never to Tamil music... even when they do watch a Tamil film, it's a Mani Rathnam film... they're not to be seen without mobile phones, they're cynics, they're just... sophisticated!
Do you like that attitude? Or does it get on your nerves? As for me, sometimes I find it irritating, their "I'm better than you" attitude, but at other times, I wonder if I'm simply being envious of their confidence and charm...
What's your opinion?

  chennai is a dirtyest city in the country. dirty land, dirty people, dirty government, dirty sophistication. having a mobile phone and talking in english and watching only mani rathnam movies wont show anybody's sophistication.
  
  Why chennaiites lack real sophistication compared with mumbaiites or bangaloriens?
  
  
  (1) Chennaiites (mostly tamils) are crazy for movies and actors.
  (2) Tamilians are too much concerned about politics. They think being in a political party enhance their social status. And they go to any lowest level to attain this.
  (3) Olden days and some present day politians spoiled the tamilians by saying tamil, tamil, and only tamil forgetting that tamil is also just a language like any other language in india. This really spoiled tamilians to mix with other state people.
  (4) Tamilians are too much caste conscience and hence Black parents continue to produce black children. They never worried about their physical appearance which is not so good. They could have allowed hybridisation among different castes.
  (5) Tamilians lack team spirit very much. They are ignorant of the benefits of team work. They think another tamil person is his rival.
  There is lot to list but above said are the main reasons of chennaiites not being sophisticated.

  I agree it is dirty take any arbitrary Indian city it is defintely dirty by world standards.
  
  as far as good things of TN concerned the riches are more evenly spread out than any other state it has the fastest GDP among all the states.
  
  Infrastructure is generally better than any other states.
  
  As far as language Tamils are the only ones who got the guts to oppose the sanskritization of the language using Hindi or any such shit.
  
  bangalorien:your opinion about black babies are wrong..To start black is not bad color in the first place.black/brown skinned people are found to be the one of the most attractive people.
  You are a product of all thos adverts/movies which portray white skinned as good ones.
  
  Only thing which has an iota of truth in your post is that Tamils are movie crazy..well who in India is not Movie crazy?

  You would run miles away. If u are not comfortable in any language, there is nothing wrong (Actually talking ur mother tongue is great) in switching over to mother tongue.

  I generally don't like High Societyist types... They're mostly to be found in Metros, i.e. Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Calcutta, etc.
