The late MGR, must have turned in his grave on the day Vaiko arrested by his successor for merely expressing support for the LTTE and suffering Srilankan Tamils.

He would have been more than amused at the antics and political clowning of his successor Jeyaram Jeyalalithaa. MGR committed the only blunder in his life in inducting Ms.Jayalalithaa, an ex-actress, to politics. It was a colossal and costly mistake and proved to be an unmitigated disaster all around.

To be charitable, MGR during his last days did realize his mistake and tried to ditch "Paappa" from the AIADMK, but it was too late!
Like MGR in the past, Vaiko has been consistent in his support to the Tamil Eelam cause against great odds.

Marthur Gopalamenon Ramachandran, popularly known as M G R, was born in Kandy; so he had the guts to stand up like Ceylon Tamils. He did so. India is full of politicians whose words and deeds do not match. MGR was an exception, as far as his relationship with Eelam Tamils was concerned. MGR identified himself with the LTTE and pledged that ‘Tamilnadu would protect Liberation Tigers’ (The Hindu, Nov.7, 1983) and did just that till his death on Dec.24, 1987.

He supported the LTTE very openly. MGR was the only TN leader who openly supported LTTE as the chief minister of TN without worrying about the center government. MGR protested against IPKF’s action and Rajiv. The entire Tamilnadu people stood against the IPKF’s action. Rajiv personally flew from Delhi to Chennai to convince MGR, and asked him to make the LTTE accept his proposal.
MGR said “no”. Mrs. Indra Gandhi never trusted the Srilankan government or its then President Jayawardane. Unfortunately after her assassination, Rajiv Gandhi, who took over as Prime Minister, unlike his mother trusted J.R.Jayawardane. He got rid of experienced senior advisors on Sri Lankan Tamilians issue like G.Parthasarathy and P.C.Alexander.

In their place the then external affairs secretary Romesh Bhandari was brought in. Rajiv Gandhi soon worked out the Indo-Sri Lankan accord in 1987. Rajiv paid the price for killing 16,000 innocent Eelam Tamilians, raping thousands of Eelam women, destroying billions worth of properties, killing 1000’s brave warriors and other damages.

MGR turned against Rajiv and the IPKF"s second role of fighting the LTTE as opposed its first role of supporting the LTTE.
He was deadly against the way IPKF handled the situation which led the suicide of 17 great LTTE warriors.

Majority of Tamilnadu people are supporters of the LTTE and the Eelam Tamilians. “ Thaan aadaa vittalum sathai aadum”.
