Toddy which is a favourite drink among Malayaies will be available bottled in a short span of time. I think this will remove some wrong connotation attched to toddy. Fresh toddy is in fact non-alcoholic, and is a health drink. For details please read this news item.http://www.timesofindia.com/today/28indi14.htm
According to Divakar, the sweet, fresh toddy is a medicinal liquid, a health beverage. It has 0 to 1 per cent alcohol that goes up with time, some 18 per cent fluctose (glucose), 4.5 per cent PH, and three essential vitamins. It could be fresh toddy which the gods supposed to have fed on for preserving youthfullness and vigour, he hazarded a guess.

It is also hoped that bottling and marketing toddy will help the coconut farmers who are faced with severe hardships due to fall in the price of their produce and diseases affecting coconuts.

Who cares man Toddy rules...I personally feel that anything that's so good shouldn't be healthy. There can't/shouldn't be healthy vices. What's the fun in that? I guess it's going to give beer a run for its money. I hope they price it right.

Siby,
What is padhani ? I have only known that it is also limed (or non-limed) toddy. If I am right, KhadiKraft of Tamilnadu has already done a futile attempt of making it available in bottles long time back.

In UK we can buy Sri Lankan’s toddy in a can. It has 6% alcohol content.
It doesn’t really taste that good. May be bottled toddy would taste better.
I have not tried the real fresh toddy yet. I am definitely going to try some when I visit Kerala next time.

In England I think toddy's a traditional warmed whisky and honey drink. Can't help the image of the non-alcoholic variety.
