this is actually a reply to someone who asked why Lord Ayyappan has a vaishanavite symbol on his forehead. If u were to observe closely, you will notice that it is not a Vaishanavite symbol. It is not a Naamam. it is called a vasthram. It is U-shaped with the centre line not touching either sides. It is not V-shaped like that on Lord vishnu's forehead. Anyway, Lord Ayyappan is also known as Hari(Vishnu)-Hara(Shiva) puthra(son). Worship on Lord Ayyappan is an experience only truly seen when u make your way to sabari Malai, observing the 41 day fast strictly and terking through the dense jungle in the 48 miles path.
