Abdul Kalam is a good scientist There is no second opinion about that. But at the same time india would face many political problems in coming semidecade. I think a well experienced politician is able to tackle the current politics in india. what is your opinion.

  It is an inhibition is Indian minds that only illiterate persons can get into politics and be successful. Abdul Kalam could be an exception. He is not only a genius, but a true well organizer too ( what his ex-colleages say). But he has little to do being at such a post in India, whcih is always said as a 'rubber stamp'

  This is not true and doesnt make any sense.
  
  No where in history does this country India existed before the britishcolonial rule.
  
  I think Kalam has to learn History.:)

  The problem is the president is a dummy and just an ornamental head who has to bow to the wishes of the cabinet which normally has many criminals, thugs, vandals and hooligans.
  He cannot do anything in our country even if he wishes and has to keep signing on the dotted line. At the maximum he can send a bill or ordinance back only for reconsideration and that too only once. So the issue of Dr.Kalam making a good president is superfluous. But our president is an intelligent man and thats why he goes about inspiring kids which unfortunately is the only thing he can do. I am happy he does at least that.

  abdul kalam talks about missiles bla bla which is of no use in these days where US is struggling to cope up with the economic pressures where coutries like India and China are grabbing all the jobs through BPO's and Call centres...why do we need these gadgets...is it because people like him can survive and enjoy a comfortable life...nobody knows how kalam came up and knowing Indian Government Institutions, you need to suck politicians to come up....how many kalam like scientists could not come up because they did not suck politicians to come up...he has not done anything as a president and kalam is a media hype...

  So we've seen what a funky job every other kind of profession has done as president, except maybe left-handed blind SC/ST dentists. Why not give a scientist a chance? =)
