Western (International) musicians take enormous time to release a single. It comes out with a bonus - Making of the Song - which also gets equal popularity where the musicians and lyricists talk about the song in general including their discussion while the composition.
Namba Mottai, silent-a tune onu pottu, 'next film' nu poita irruparu. I agree to get hold of all their discussions during the pre-production and also, on the composition table. Few films like Guna did try to document the audio of the film, also few interactions with The Great Poet Valli, but it stopped there abruptly and we are bound to beleive whatever is spoken on decorative stages/honorary functions.
Music without lyrics is still music, but lyrics without music is poetry. It depends on the music genre too, for instance, Jazz does not require lyrics to be drowned in divinity.
Singing is more inclined to the lyrics, where the music breaks the sounds (voice and instruments). Vocal and lyrics are more subjective, which are not an object of thought but a placed emphasis on one's mood. Whereas, Music is more responsive - for instance an instrumental of the same song can bias with the current mood, while with lyrics embedded shall force to think otherwise.
Here is an exemple :
BGM Aan Pavam (1985)
Konji Konji from Veera (1994)
You can realise that Aan Pavam melody can be twisted by the mind, but for Konji Konji with the lyrics embeded it hooks a particular emotion inside the mind.
Be it lyrics or vocal or music, I treat them all as sounds. For me language itself is a sound. A music director arranges all, mixing them to vibrate together, sometime by the direction shown by the lyrics or the mood of the vocal or by hooking them together with a memorable music.

Kannai Thirandha Karunai Kaarmaeghamae from Veera (1994)
Recently I watched the tamil film Kattappava Kanom. A newly married couple move into their appratment and the following evening, the young man waits for his wife, while being seated on a sofa watching television. The visuals that play before him is from the film Veera, where Rajini drenched in rain knocks the doors of Meena.
Veera released in the year 1994 is unfortunately the last film of the fabulous combo IR-Rajini. Illayaraja music in the film runs parrallel with the screenplay, as well as, effortlessly matches with the director Suresh Krissna's visuals.
Veera is an young man who is under a false impression that women as mere sex toys. Eventhough being talented and gifted with an amazing vocal, he takes up a crash course on singing just to bed the daughter of his guru, Devayani. That evening, along with his friends, he plots a perverted plan and knocks the doors of Devayani. His move would be when she is close to him, permiting him a chance to drop a fish inside her blouse. He imagines to create an erotic suituation inside the room and gets very much aroused when he finds Devayani readily co-operating with him.
Moments later, he realises that Devayani had eavesdropped his conversation with his firends at the temple lake and she feels ashamed of herself for being just an object for his desire. Her repetance becomes a revelation for Veera. He moves towards the string instrument, the veena, and drops the fish over the stings.
What follows should be experienced with IR's musical score :
As a music director, IR has elegantly taken another route than being melodramatic. A set of crying violins or blown out trumpets could have also suited the suituation. But IR elegantly transforms the scene into a form of art, where he portrays through his music the bleeding heart beating in guilt just like the fish out of the water. The direction of Suresh Krisnna readily motivates IR to get such an idea, as 'a fish out of water' symbolises someone being uncomfortable of the suituation.
A fanstatic scene which serves as a tutorial for scoring a BGM that narrates the proceeding within a limited time space, apart from visual expression.

If I get started about Silk, there will be no end to it. Saturday evening, chill weather, a glass of bourbon for a change from single malt - Silk merits much more than just be assosiated as a symbol of sexual desires coined by perverts. She attracts with her charm by speaking without allowing the two lips to meet and there is an ounce of flirtatious smile sticking to both corners eternally. And when she winks both her eyes ... well, ... lets listen to a song :
Mella Mella Ennai Thottu from Vazhkai (1994).
Recognised for singing more songs by Guinness Book of Records, Gaana Saraswathi P. Susheela renders her enchanting voice for my most favourite artist Silk Smitha.
