Here is a composition by Shri Purandaradasaru. Song describes about the actual worship of GOD
is different from what we are performing in today's life style. Though the word PURITY is not an appropriate word for kannada word “maDi”,
I did not find a suitable word.
Lyric follows:
rAga: bEhAg
tALa: Adi
rachane: shrI puraMdaradAsaru
maDi maDi maDi eMdu aDigaDige hAruve maDi mADuva bage bEruMTu /pa/
poDavi pAlakana padadhyAnavanu biDade mADuvudu adu maDiyu /anupa/
baTTeya nIroLagaddi oNagisi uTTukoMDare adu maDiyalla
hoTTeyoLagina kAma krOdhava biTTu naDedare adu maDiyu /1/
hiriyara gurugaLa haridAsarugaLa charaNake eraguvudu bhakutiyali
paripAlisu eMdu puraMdaraviThalana iruLu hagalu neneyuvude maDiyu /2/
Meaning of the song:
Jumping (hAruve) every step (aDigaDige) saying (eMdu) purity (maDi maDi maDi),
there is a different way (bEruMTu) to perform (mADuva bage) Purity (maDi)
Purity (adu maDiyu) is performing (biDade mADuvudu) meditation/chanting (padadhyAnavanu) about the King (pAlakana) of this Earth (poDavi)
Purity is not (adu maDiyalla) in washing (nIroLagaddi) clothes (baTTeya) and wear (uTTukoMDare) them after drying (oNagisi) them
Purity is (adu maDiyu) leaving away (biTTu naDedare) the lust-anger (kAma krOdhava) from the stomach (hoTTeyoLagina)
Bow (eraguvudu) at the feet (charaNake) of elders (hiriyara), teachers (gurugaLa),
and devotees of VISHNU (haridAsarugaLa) with devotion (bhakutiyalli)
Purity is (maDiyu) remembering (neneyuvude) PURANDARAVITHALA (puraMdaraviThalana) all the day (hagalu) and night (iruLu)
and requesting HIM to protect (paripAlisu eMdu)
