My niece is 2 1/2 years old & is very active. She also eats properly (without fussing) but is still slightly underweight. Though doctors say she's OK, all our relatives & friends, comment immediately on seeing her that she's very thin. Any suggestions please to increase the child's weight, will be very appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
You don't have to worry about what others say, as she's very active and good at taking food, that's the big gift from God. But still you can try giving cheese, cereals with milk, saththu maavu(make Kanji with milk), steamed apple and egg(one per day). Hope this will help her to put some wait.

Hi,
First of all don't worry bcoz some kids bcome thin when they are growing in height. This is a dish my aunt gave her son who had the similar problem. He was born prematurely and later on,though he ate well,it did not show at all.
Rava Kurukku(Kheer made with Sooji)
Sooji----3 tbsp
milk----1&1/2 cups
sugar---5 tbsp
cardamom(optional)
cashews(optional)
raisins(optional)
saffron(optional)
Roast sooji a liitle bit.do not burn.
Heat milk on stove and slowly add sugar, cardamom, saffron, sooji.
Stir well till milk comes to a boil.keep on stove till it thickens.
Smear a plate(preferably steel)with butter and pour the mixture, even it out and let it cool.
garnish with cashews, raisins.(only if ur kid likes this)
this should be semi solid, not hard like kesari.
Serve hot.Alternately u can make this more loose like liquid form and cool it in fridge.then give the child. After two weeks u will certainly notice a good change. My aunt's son rounded up like a bunny!
All the best!!!

Thanks so much R, KH & Rakhi for the responses. They have given her ragi kanji earlier but it gave the kid constipation, so they discontinued. They're trying sooji kheer & I'm hoping it suits the child.
Thanks again,
Kamakshi.

I don't think you should worry about the appearance as long as the development is normal and the doctors don't find anything wrong. Some babies are thin and some are chubby (as with adults). Kids will eat whatthey require when they require.. I don't believe in force feeding. Just my 2 cents.
