V.S. Naipaul, son of an Indian, has been awarded the Nobel Prize for literature today. His views do not subscribe to any received opnion--as a true writer, he only speaks for himself, so many Indians may feel offended by his views on India. Yet I feel Indians have every reason to be proud that a man of Indian heritage was awarded the most prestigious prize in literature. Not being Indian or of indian heritage myself, I congratulate you all.

Thanks for the recognition. I am myself an
Indian, born in Guyana. I am proud to be of
Indian heritage.
I always wondered what is was like for my forefathers to take a ship from India and travel so far. Thankfully, Naipaul explained it for me.
I remembered reading 'A House for Mr. Biswas' with tears in my eyes. It was because in some
aspects, Naipaul was describing my own father.
